inventory/stock-items
Delete a reservation to free the stock item over its dates, for example when a planned service is called off. To end a reservation early and keep it on record, edit its end date instead. Stock item events explains what deleting a reservation releases.

Prerequisites

Required permissions:
  • Delete stock items (inventory:stock_item_events:delete) to delete the reservation. Every built-in role holds it, Member included. See Users & Roles.
Have ready before you start:
  • The reservation’s costs, noted elsewhere, if you still need them. Deleting the reservation deletes the income and expenses saved on it.

The walkthrough

1

Open the stock item

Open Inventory → Stock items and click the item’s row. The stock item opens. With more than one location, check the location selector in the top-left corner first, because the Events tab lists only the orders and reservations at the locations it shows.
2

Open the Events tab

Click the Events tab and find the reservation by its title under Event name.
3

Tick the reservation

Tick the checkbox at the left of the reservation’s row. A bar opens above the table with a red Delete. Order rows cannot be ticked, because an order lets go of the item when you change the order.
4

Click Delete

Click Delete in the bar. The Delete item dialog opens and reads “Deleting this item may affect related resources. This action cannot be undone.”
5

Confirm the delete

Click Delete at the bottom of the dialog. The dialog closes, and the reservation’s row is gone from the Events tab.

How do I know it worked?

  • The reservation’s row is gone from the Events tab.
  • Next reservation on Inventory → Stock items shows the item’s next reservation, or nothing.
  • Orders the reservation displaced keep their conflict. Deleting it does not give them the item back.

Troubleshooting / common pitfalls

Deleting a reservation frees its dates but does not give back the holds it took when it was made. Open the unit on the order and click Claim unit again, or put another unit on the line. See Resolve a stock item conflict.
The entries saved on the reservation were deleted with it. Record them again on the stock item. See Record a cost or income.
The row is an order, or a hold that has already ended. Change an order to take the item off it. A past hold stays as history. See Stock item Events tab.
