TWICE 2.0 is a complete rebuild of our platform on new backend and infrastructure. It is now available, and we have started onboarding both new and existing customers.

New customers can start on 2.0 today by booking a demo at twicecommerce.com/demo. Existing customers can start their migration by submitting the form at twicecommerce.com/lp/migration.

This post covers why we rebuilt the platform, what has changed, and what to expect if you are moving over.

Why we rebuilt rather than iterated

Most commerce software assumes linear trade: an item is bought once and sold once. Circular commerce works differently. The same item is rented, returned, inspected, repaired, resold, or traded back in, and each of those steps changes its condition, its value, and sometimes its owner.

Our original platform was designed to get rental businesses online quickly, and it did that well. As our customers grew more complex, the same constraints kept coming up:

  • Fixed data structures. Every business models its products and processes differently. When the schema is fixed, operators end up adapting their business to the software, or keeping the real data in a spreadsheet alongside it.
  • Separate modules rather than connected assets. Inventory, catalog, orders, and customers behaved as distinct tools. Lifecycle history was not carried consistently between them, and there was no single traceable record of what had happened to an item over time.
  • A single way to sell. One storefront and one checkout flow cannot serve B2B and B2C, in-store and online, or several markets at once.
  • Partial programmatic access. When the API cannot do everything the admin can, integrations become workarounds rather than extensions.

These are architectural constraints rather than missing features, which is why we rebuilt instead of continuing to extend the original platform.

What we are building toward

We do not think circular commerce needs more vertical tools. It needs horizontal, configurable layers that connect data, workflows, and systems. As commerce moves toward more automation and agent-driven interactions, clear and consistent data structure is what makes that data usable by people, integrations, and software alike.

Four decisions shape TWICE 2.0:

Core assets with full lifecycle support. Inventory, catalog, orders, and customers are connected data models that track state over time. In circular commerce the lifecycle does not end at the point of sale; it continues through use, return, refurbishment, and resale.

A table-first admin. Core views are searchable, filterable, sortable, and groupable, with column controls, export, and saved custom views. Custom attributes let you store the data your business actually needs rather than working within a fixed set of fields.

A configuration layer. Automation rules, multi-location and multi-tax operations, and parallel fulfillment types are configured rather than hard-coded.

API and MCP layers. Every function in the admin is powered by the same public REST API available to you, which makes the platform headless and composable, and gives external systems structured access to your commerce data.

TWICE can run as a complete commerce platform on its own, or sit alongside an existing stack as a recommerce layer.

What has changed

Rather than list every change, here is what is different in each of the four areas you work in day to day.

Area What changed Included
Inventory Inventory is serialized. Each unit is tracked as an individual asset with its own lifecycle, financials, and history, rather than as a quantity. Detailed item tracking, dynamic attributes, income and expense tracking per item, timeline events and audit logs, multi-location management with stock transfers, calendar view, bulk actions, saved custom views, documents and media on any item
Catalog The catalog is separated from inventory, so what you sell is no longer defined by how you store it. Listings, bundles, and pricing can be structured commercially. Dynamic listings for bookings, rentals, and sales, flexible variants under one listing, bundles with item-level tracking, advanced and scheduled price tables, smart collections, categories and tags, dynamic booking durations, built-in SEO tools, bulk media uploader
Orders Order management supports both high-value and high-volume operations, with fulfillment rules handling allocation and returns. Smart auto-assignment, cross-location fulfillment and returns, partial fulfillment and partial payments, custom line items, group order handling, guided returns, centralized documents and attachments, comments and activity log, integrated CRM, calendar view
Sales channels One inventory serves every channel, online and in-store, with availability, pricing, and customer data synced in real time. Hosted white-label online store, retail order creation with live cross-location stock, native Wix app with TWICE powering the backend, improved booking calendar, product search and filters, adaptive checkout that adjusts to the contents of the cart

Frequently asked questions

Is TWICE 2.0 a new product or an upgrade?

It is the same platform in name and purpose, rebuilt on new backend and infrastructure. The data model, admin, storefront, and API are all new. In practice it is closer to a move than an update, which is why every migrating customer gets a walkthrough.

Do I need to migrate now?

No. We are moving customers in waves so we can support each account properly, and we will be in touch when yours is ready to be prepared. If you would like to move sooner, start at twicecommerce.com/lp/migrate.

What happens to my current data?

We build your TWICE 2.0 account from your existing account data. The migration form covers the details we need to carry your setup over correctly, and the walkthrough is where we check together that everything is where you expect it.

Will my storefront look different?

The new storefront runs on a configurable theme template with a visual theme editor, so the look is rebuilt rather than carried over as-is. Theme controls, custom CSS, and custom domain support give most merchants closer control over their brand than before. We cover this during the walkthrough.

Is everything from the old platform available in 2.0?

Most of it, along with a good deal that was not. A small number of capabilities are still being finished. If something specific is critical to your operation, raise it on your walkthrough call and we will give you a clear answer on where it stands.
