Unarchive a stock item to bring it back into Inventory → Stock items and into use. It comes back with the status it had, and the holds archiving released stay released. Archiving and Deletion explains what unarchiving does not restore.

Prerequisites

Required permissions:
  • Create and edit stock items to unarchive a stock item (inventory:stock_item:manage). Every built-in role holds it.
Settings is hidden from a Member out of the box, so a Member needs a custom role that shows it. See Users & Roles and UI visibility.
Have ready before you start:
  • The stock item’s name or code, to find it among the archived ones.

The walkthrough

1

Open Archived assets

With more than one location, choose All locations in the location selector in the top-left corner first, because the archived stock items follow it. Then open Settings → Archived assets. The page lists every kind of record you can archive, in cards grouped by area.
2

Open the archived stock items

Click Stock items under Inventory. A full-screen view opens with a table of archived stock items. To unarchive several at once, select their rows and click Unarchive above the table, then Unarchive in the dialog.
3

Open the stock item

Enter its name or code in “Search item name or SKU” and click its row. The stock item opens, with This asset is archived at the top and Unarchive beside it.
4

Unarchive it

Click Unarchive on the banner. The banner disappears, and the stock item is listed in Inventory → Stock items again, with the status chip it had before it was archived.

How do I know it worked?

  • The banner is gone from the stock item’s page.
  • The stock item is listed in Inventory → Stock items again, and no longer under Settings → Archived assets.
  • Its status is the one it had. An Active stock item counts toward availability again. An Inactive one stays out of new orders.
  • Orders that lost it when it was archived still need a unit. Unarchiving does not put it back on them.

Troubleshooting / common pitfalls

Archiving released their holds, and unarchiving recreates none of them, because other orders may have taken the capacity since. Put a unit back on each line. See Archiving and Deletion.
It came back with the status it had, and listings count Active stock items only. Choose Active in the Status card on its General tab. See Stock Item Status.
The location selector shows another location, or the stock item was deleted. A deleted stock item is not listed anywhere and cannot be unarchived. See Archiving and Deletion.
