settings/attributes-and-tags
Create an inventory attribute for a field your stock items need and TWICE Commerce does not have, such as a colour, a serial number or a warranty date. You define it once, and each stock item carries its own value. Attributes explains the formats and where an attribute shows up.

Prerequisites

Required permissions: Create and edit attributes (inventory:attribute:create). Every built-in role holds it, Member included, but the Member role hides Settings out of the box. See Users & Roles.
Have ready before you start:
  • The name staff will see on every stock item that carries the attribute.
  • The full list of values, when staff pick from a fixed list. Settle it before the first stock item gets a value.

The walkthrough

1

Open Attributes & Tags

Open Settings in the sidebar and choose Attributes & Tags in the list. The page shows two cards: Attributes & Attribute Groups and Tags.
2

Open the inventory attributes

Under Attributes & Attribute Groups, click Inventory. A full-screen view opens on its Attributes tab, listing the inventory attributes the account already has, with New attribute in the top-right corner.
3

Start a new attribute

Click New attribute in the top-right corner. The Add new attribute panel opens on the right, with Name and Type at the top.
4

Name the attribute

Enter the name in Name, for example Colour. Staff see this name on every stock item that carries the attribute, and TWICE Commerce derives the attribute’s key from it.
5

Choose the type

Open Type and choose the format. Choose Select when staff pick from a fixed list: every stock item then holds the same spelling, and a listing rule offers the values before any stock item carries one. Check the choice now, because Type cannot change once the attribute exists.
6

Add the values

Skip this step for any type other than Select or Multi-select. Under Options, click Add option and enter the first value in the Label field that appears. Repeat for each value on your list.
7

Decide where the field shows

Tick Save as global attribute to show the field on every stock item, empty until someone fills it in. Leave it unticked to show the field only on the stock items you add it to.
8

Save the attribute

Click Save at the bottom of the panel. The panel closes, and the attribute is listed in the table under its name.

How do I know it worked?

  • The attribute is listed under Settings → Attributes & Tags → Inventory, with Global reading Yes or No.
  • A global attribute shows on every stock item, empty, on the item’s Attributes tab.
  • Any other attribute is offered under Add Attribute on a stock item’s Attributes tab.

Troubleshooting / common pitfalls

The Member role hides Settings out of the box. Create the attribute from a stock item instead: on its Attributes tab, click Add Attribute, then Create a new attribute…. See UI visibility.
The type is fixed once the attribute exists. To use another type, create a new attribute and move the values across, because deleting the old one deletes every value stored for it. See Attributes.
