inventory/skus
Add a fulfillment field to a SKU to show staff a value on every order that uses one of its stock items, such as the bin to pick it from. This walkthrough defines the field and attaches it in one go. Attributes & Tags explains what a fulfillment field can hold and where it shows.

Prerequisites

Required permissions:
  • Create and edit SKUs (inventory:sku:manage) to attach the field to the SKU.
  • Create and edit attributes (inventory:attribute:create) to define a new field.
Every built-in role holds both, Member included. See Users & Roles.
Have ready before you start:
  • The field’s name and the SKU’s value, as staff should read them on the order, such as Bin location and A-12.

The walkthrough

1

Open the SKU

Open Inventory → SKUs and click the SKU’s row. The SKU opens on its General tab.
2

Open the Fulfilment tab

Click the Fulfilment tab. The Fulfillment fields card at the top lists the fields the SKU’s stock items carry, with Add fields in its top-right corner.
3

Open Add fields

Click Add fields. The Add attributes panel opens on the right with one empty row. If the field exists already, pick it in Pick an attribute, enter its value beside it and go on to the last step.
4

Create a new field

Click Create a new attribute… under the row. The Add new attribute panel opens over it.
5

Name the field

Enter the field’s name under Name, such as Bin location, and keep Type at Text.
6

Enter the SKU's value

Enter the SKU’s bin under Value, such as A-12. Every stock item under the SKU takes this value unless it sets its own.
7

Make it read-only on orders

Select Read-only on orders, so staff see the bin on the order and cannot change it there. Required clears and greys out.
8

Save the field

Click Save at the bottom of the panel. It closes, and the row in Add attributes now holds Bin location with its value.
9

Add it to the SKU

Click Add 1 attribute at the bottom of the panel. The panel closes, and Bin location is listed on the Fulfillment fields card with its value and Read-only under On orders. It is saved at once.

How do I know it worked?

  • The SKU’s Fulfillment fields card lists the field with its value and Read-only under On orders.
  • Each stock item under the SKU lists it on its own Fulfilment tab with a link icon, because it comes from the SKU.
  • An order with one of those stock items assigned shows the field and its value under Fulfillment details, beside the stock item.

Troubleshooting / common pitfalls

Your role cannot define fields, only attach the ones that exist. Ask someone who holds Create and edit attributes. See Users & Roles.
An order shows the fields attached to its assigned stock item or that item’s SKU, plus global fields. Check the line has a stock item of this SKU assigned. See SKU - Fulfillment.
A fulfillment field shows on orders only, so it has no column, filter or bulk edit there. Use an inventory attribute for anything you sort stock by. See Attributes & Tags.
