# How to set the default location

> Choose the location TWICE Commerce uses when nothing else names one, on the Default location card under Settings → Locations.

Make one of your locations the account's default, the location TWICE Commerce falls back on when nothing else names one. [Locations](https://www.twicecommerce.com/docs/concepts/admin/locations.md#what-a-location-is) explains what the default decides.

## Prerequisites

> **Required permissions:** **Create and edit locations** to change the default location (`location_settings:contact_info:manage`). Manager, Admin and Owner hold it. See [Users & Roles](https://www.twicecommerce.com/docs/settings/users-roles.md).

> **Have ready before you start:**
>
> * **The location you want as the default**, already added under **Settings → Locations**.

## The walkthrough

**1. Open the locations settings**

Open **Settings → Locations**. The page lists your locations under **All locations**. Below the list, the **Default location** card names the current default with its address.

**2. Open the location list**

Click **Change** on the **Default location** card. The **Change default location** panel opens, listing every location with a tick on the current default.

**3. Pick the new default**

Click the location you want as the default. The tick moves to its row. Type in **Search** at the top of the panel to narrow a long list.

**4. Save the default**

Click **Save** at the bottom of the panel. The panel closes and the **Default location** card names the location you picked.

## How do I know it worked?

* **The Default location card names the location you picked**, with its address.
* **Entry Location starts at the new default** when you register a stock item under **All locations**.

## Troubleshooting / common pitfalls

> Your role does not hold **Create and edit locations**, so the change was refused. Ask someone who does, or see [Users & Roles](https://www.twicecommerce.com/docs/settings/users-roles.md).

> [accordion] The location selector did not move to the new default
