# Attributes and attribute groups

> On of the core ideas of TWICE Commerce is to give you full control over what data you want to record for an asset

### Attribute Types and Formulas

Each attribute has a type that defines how its data behaves and is rendered in the storefront:

* **Text** — for short descriptors or identifiers (e.g., *Model*, *Collection*, *Material*).
* **Long text** — for rich content, like extended descriptions or care instructions.
* **Number** — for measurable values (e.g., *Length*, *Weight*, *Capacity*).
* **Currency** — for monetary fields, such as *Deposit amount* or *Optional fee*.
* **Percent** — for relative values like *Discount level* or *Recycled material ratio*.
* **Yes / No** — for toggles like *Eco-certified* or *Available in-store*.
* **Date** / **Date & Time** — for campaign dates, seasonal availability, or expiry information.
* **Select** — for choosing a single option from a predefined list (e.g., *Condition*: *New*, *Used*, *Refurbished*).
* **Multi-select** — for multiple attributes (e.g., *Activities*: *Hiking*, *Skiing*, *Climbing*).
* **Files & media** — for attaching visuals like product manuals or certificates.
* **Relation** — for linking listings to other entities, such as SKU or Stock Item attributes
* **Formula** — for automatically derived values (e.g., *Total value = Base price + Deposit*).
* **External** — for fetching live data from third-party systems or APIs (e.g., *Market price index*, *External rating*).

Formulas and external attributes allow dynamic data without modifying your storefront structure — letting listings update automatically when underlying data changes.

### Attribute Groups

Attributes can be organized into **groups** to structure listing data and improve maintainability.

Groups are used to separate related information and keep complex data organized.

> Examples of attribute groups:

* \*Product details
* Technical specifications
* Sustainability information
* Size and fit\*

>

Grouping helps you maintain consistency across listings and makes it easier to apply shared attribute sets when creating new listings.

> Example: Attribute Group Technical Specifications **← Group
> ↓ Attributes**

* Material
* Weight
* Volume
* Dimensions

>

Groups can be reused across multiple listings to standardize data collection and storefront presentation.

You can control the attribute groups through [Attributes & Tags settings](/docs/settings/attributes-tags).
